Workshop on Vibration Analysis: Why it Causes Failure and How to Prevent Failures 6-7 December, 2017

Vibrations are by far the dominant cause of failures for any technology/hardware whether it is used for deep sea exploration or in space borne vehicles. In many cases, vibration is undesirable, wasting energy and creating unwanted sound directly and indirectly resulting in about 65% of the failures. Such vibrations could be caused by imbalances in the rotating parts, uneven friction or the meshing of gear teeth. This short course highlights that catastrophes can be evaded if proper analysis is done by identifying frequencies that can cause failures and by taking safety measures i.e. reinforcing, plunging or eliminating such frequencies on the hardware will eradicate failures.

Course Content
  • Introduction to Vibrations and Measuring Techniques
  • Why the technology and resulting hardware fails in general
  • What methods are used to screen parts
  • Non-destructive tests and ways to test without shortening life of the Unit Under Test (UUT)
    Real world examples:
  • Demonstration on how to use vibration testing system and prepare UUT for evaluation
  • Demonstration on how to conduct random, shock and sine tests as per International standards
About Trainer
  1. Dr. Asif Israr, presently working as Professor and Head Mechanical Engineering, has vast involvement in the field of vibrations and condition monitoring for the last 18 years. He has worked on several industrial and engineering projects involving structural dynamics, vibration analysis, fracture mechanics and structural health monitoring.
  2. Dr. Nasim brings over 20 years of advanced technology development experience while working for top Aerospace Defense Corporation in the West. He has worked in the capacity of Senior System Scientist and Technical Director Advanced Technology. He has hands on experience working for Commercial and Military systems. He has captured Innovation Award and led several programs in state of the art high technology.
  3. Dr. Zubair has over 35 years of diversified practical experience of working on various R&D projects and problems. He has hands on experience to overcome the vibration problems in rotating machinery parts.
