The Centre of Excellence in High Performance Computing(HPC) will be responsible for providing services, support and co-ordination to the local scientific computing community. A key aspect of this is the establishment of a world class infrastructure, specifically high performance computing resources. The first iteration of these resources are expected to be in place soon, will be be amongst the most substantial and sophisticated in Pakistan.

The establishment of HPC infrastructure is typically a non-trivial endeavor. It is an especially daunting challenge when the facility is on a national scale.

The establishment of HPC facility brings under one roof a centralized large-scale computing facility to the strong research community on campus. It will also pave the way for a wider range of complex multidisciplinary research endeavors and more opportunities for research interaction within as well as outside of IST.
