Twin City Inter-University Challenge

The Institute of Space Technology hosted for the first time, the “Twin-City Inter-University Challenge”. This was a two-day event in which several universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated , including Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Army Medical College (AMC), Military College Of Signals (MCS), Comsats Institute of information Technology (CIIT), NUST Business School (NBS), Foundation University Islamabad (FUI), Islamic International University(IIU), Preston University and many others giving a total of 13 universities.

The event was a mixture of different competitions including Declamation, Bilingual Story writing and Essay writing, Video Shoot, Photography, Dramatics and All Rounder competitions. The wide assortment of contests proved to be a platform for students to interact and share their ideas with each other.  In fact the maiden event was a solo expedition by IST aimed to inculcate the spirit of extra-curricular activities among the students of universities.

First IST Robotics Contest

To mark the auspicious occasion of Pakistan’s 58th Independence day, the Institute of Space Technology (IST) organized an inter-university Robotics Contest. Teams from College of EME with their robots Red Alert and Speedy Zilla won first and second prizes. The Third prize went to the robotics team of IST. Mr Tariq Badsha, Member IT, IT & Telecomm Div was the chief guest at the occasion.

The theme of the competition was to design & develop robots that could follow an optical path on a track in the shortest amount of time. Not only were they to follow a line autonomously, but also to make decisions on making right or left turns, ejecting a ping-pong ball, and stopping at the finish line, based on the optical symbols pasted on top of the track.

The main idea of the contest was not only to inspire students to indulge in extra curricular activities but also to inspire them to develop inter-disciplinary engineering knowledge, resourcefulness, team work and above all to prepare them to face the pressures of real time challenges of modern industry.

A large number of students from various engineering universities participated in the contest as well as friends and family members to cheer them on. IST intends to continue holding similar contests in future as well.

Students Week

21-24 March, 2005

As a part of the co-curricular activities of students, IST organized an annual students week as always, from March 21 to 25. It included dramas, plays, skits, sports events including cricket, football, basketball, table-tennis and other interesting segments/competitions. It was great to see that IST students excel as much as in co-curricular activities as they do in their academics.

Students performed amazingly well in all these events. They came up with really fresh ideas. Expectedly the faculty and management were the butt of the jokes/skits which were put across in a very pleasant way. Students had so much to perform that time allotted for the student week seemed very insufficient. There was hardly any dull moment, as the students found something nice and pleasant out of just about everything.

On the last day of students week, finals of all sports events took place. All the teams performed really well. Freshmen of Aeronautics and Astronautics department emerged as winners in most of these competitions. The highlight of the last evening was a popular music band EP which performed to the pulsating and throbbing group of students. The faculty and students mingled together over a sumptuous dinner in the end.
