Eligibility Criteria - PhD Program
Graduate Assessment Test-Subject (GAT-Subject) taken by NTS in the relevant field of study with minimum 60% marks obtained. In addition, the required qualification is detailed below against each program:
Aerospace Engineering
  1. Aerodynamics/ Computational Fluid Dynamics
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
  2. Propulsion
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
  3. Structural Design & Analysis
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
  4. Aerospace Vehicle Design
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
  5. Guidance, Navigation & Control
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
Electrical Engineering
  1. Signal & Image Processing
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
  2. Wireless Communications
    MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
PhD Mechanical Engineering
MS/ M.Phil/ equivalent in relevant discipline
PhD Astronomy and Astrophysics:
  • Min CGPA of 3.0/4.0 or 70% marks in MS/MPhil (18 years of education in relevant discipline
  • Only one Second (2nd) division in the entire academic career except the terminal MS/MPhil degree
  • A score of 60% in the NTS GAT Subject
PhD Materials Science & Engineering
  • 18 years of education in relevant field from any HEC recognized University/Institute
  • Minimum Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 out of band 4.00 for the US based semester system in MS or 70% marks in case where CGPA is not available
  • One 2nd division / C-grade is allowed in entire academic career except in the terminal degree (MS/ME/M.Phil.)
  • Candidate must provide a valid score of more than 60 in GAT-Subject Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the time of admission

PhD Mathematics
  1. Nonlinear Dynamics
  2. Computational Mathematics
  3. Fluid Mechanics
  4. Cryptography
  5. Optimization

  • 18 years of education in Mathematics/Physics/Engineering from any HEC recognized University/Institute
  • Minimum Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 out of band 4.00 in MS or 70% marks in case where CGPA is not available
  • One 2nd division/C-grade/less than 60% is allowed in the entire academic career except in the terminal degree (MS/M.Phil.)
  • Candidate must provide a valid score of equal or more than 60 in Graduate Assessment Test (GAT)-Subject, taken by National Testing Services (NTS), at the time of admission.
  • Candidates having International GRE-Subject score of more than or equal to 60th percentile in their field of specialization do not need to pass GAT-subject
  • Research proposal (intended research work during PhD) approved by Departmental Board of Graduate studies (DBGS)*
    *DBGS committee comprises members as per IST policy
  • A PhD candidate will be required to give a presentation/interview to DBGS related to his/her research proposal before his/her admission is finalized
